The correct understanding of Scripture

How can you understand a book without animated by the spirit of God that spirit? Can not but appreciate the poetic or musical meaning no one beauty of the poetry or understand music truly noble; as impossible is it that a psychic (psychological, natural) man (1 Corinthians 2:14) that God does not mind, his should understand word. He may be familiar with the original languages, history and antiquities of the Bible - all this only applies to their external body. He may be able to appreciate their noble beauty, and of the real human element in it, in contrast to the classical Greek and Roman Literature will be delighted, their so loyal and true portrayal of the varied experience of life may take his soul deep - everything is as it were only her soul, the spirit of Scripture is God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the psalmist prays, although he was well acquainted with the language and the orders of the Pentateuch: Mr me open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from Your law! (Ps 119:18). And it follows that the "spiritual" person can understand just the basics of writing well, although in in other ways, in terms of understanding of what we can call the corporeal and the spiritual aspect of Scripture, much lacking, and that every effort merely critical (the Exploring outer), linguistic, historical, aesthetic and human understanding of Scripture - as a valuable service it can afford the same understanding of the spiritual - is unable to grasp the true content of the word.

A unstudierter, applies some simple-minded Christ 22 Psalm easily to Christ and his immediate attention may be little relationship to David. He probably means that David saw without any mediating factors, without limitation, simply in the spirit of the sufferings of Christ. Such a view is incomplete, but it is not wrong, she sees the thing but just from the main point of the face. It is the noblest and true opinion, to God's plan and will eventually aim, whereas a purely historical explanation of this Psalm (as aptly may always turn out the psychological analysis), not the suffering and triumphant Christ sees it, is superficial and gives a false picture. No doubt many a unstudierte has, but the spirit learned man given a more correct exegesis, as well-informed, but unenlightened scholars. But we have to attach as a word. There is a danger of the Truth raping ambition and self-conceit in the unlearned as well as for scholars. Someone can be learned without knowledge and yet without spiritual insight, and without humility. The men who the most humble and most are spiritually minded, are most likely to be both diligent and conscientious researcher and serve with gratitude all that can spread through the Scriptures according to their different sides light. And those which the deepest interest in the true welfare of the community have the Lord's desire, first and foremost a truly spiritual, then better do it in second place, a thoroughly informed and intellectual activity preacher shaft.

My Dog Rubbing Against

Current sermon, or how do you stand with the policy?

While I was at the preaching of preparing for next Sunday and after examples and illustrations to ponder about, I will of course always the Events through the head, which dominated the news this week (here in Switzerland). I wonder how many times the sound down on this Sunday, the words "Federal", "Blocher" and "deselection" of Swiss pulpits. Somehow, this event calls it, that people talk about it. If the done but also from the pulpit?

I wonder whether we should use current political events in the sermon as examples. After all, the listeners could interpret these events quite differently. What is a part of the Swiss a reason to cheer, others filled with anger and disappointment. Very different emotions are at play. This example can illustrate so really, explain what I want?

As for me, I would resist the temptation this Sunday. But it would be interested to know what the current and moving event must serve all. Let me know.

Just so ...

Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Do not listen to the words of the prophets that prophesy! They are deceiving, for they tell you face from her heart and not from the mouth of the Lord. They say those who despise the Lord's word: It will probably go to you, and all who walk by their hardened hearts, they say, no harm will come upon you. But who has stood in the counsel of the Lord that he had seen and heard his word would? Anyone who has heard and heard his word? See, there will be a storm of the Lord full of wrath and fall a terrible storm on the head of the wicked. And the Lord's wrath will not cease until he was doing and organizing what he has in mind, the last time you will see it clearly.

I sent the prophets, and yet they run, I did not talk to them, yet they prophesy. For if they had stood in my counsel, they would have preached my words to my people to get it to turn from his evil ways and from their evil deeds. Am I only a God who is near, saith the Lord, and not a God who is far away? Do you think that someone could hide so secretly, I do not see him? saith the Lord. I am not, heaven and earth meet? saith the Lord.

I hear well what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name and say: I dreamed that I dreamed. When will it stop the prophets prophesy lies and deceit of their heart to prophesy and do not want my people forget my name by their dreams, which tells one to another, as their fathers forgot my name through Baal? A prophet who has dreams of telling dreams, but he who has my word, preach my word right. How does rhyme together straw and wheat? saith the Lord. Is not my word like a Fire, saith the Lord, and like a hammer, the rock in pieces?

Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, the Lord, that steal my words speak of each other. Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, which carry their own word, and say: "He's said," Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, who tell false dreams, and seduced my people with their lies and. chatter, although I have not sent them anything and they told this people are not profitable, says the Lord.

The temptation of the pastor

By Otto Thelen, handout in the Heidelberg Catechism:
with all sorts of flattering insinuations he wants [Satan] the children of God to the false security or for the arrogance seduce and bring them thus to a case. - "But Pastor," someone said before Krichtür, "what have you now considered a fine sermon!" "That gave me the devil already said when I came from the pulpit," was the reply of the preacher.

Great Awakening in the "reformed" world

The final announcement of the Pope (answers to questions about some aspects of the doctrine of the Church - Link ) caused quite a stir in the evangelical world. The supporters of the ecumenical movement within the churches are very surprised about that the Bishop of Rome, the Reformed churches not actually accepted as a church. The fifth point of a short document that explains the doctrine of the Roman Church, the pope takes a position on the Reformed churches. Here's the text:

5th question: Why do the texts of the Council and the Magisterium of the communities from the Reformation of the 16th Century emerged, the title "church" not to?

Answer: Because these communities have, according to Catholic doctrine of apostolic succession is not in Holy Orders and are, therefore, deprived of a constitutive element of the Church. These ecclesial , Which have mainly because of the absence of the sacramental priesthood, have not preserved the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic Mystery can not, according to Catholic doctrine are "churches" in the proper sense.

Frankly, my opinion this has not surprised. The Roman Church has never claimed otherwise. When you observe honestly and accurately what happened in the often vaunted approach, then each well, which has now been recorded on paper (see, for example, the impact of the Joint Declaration on Justification). Now, if church leaders are surprised that there is only one way out of Rome - back to Rome - then they probably have the issues they have studied in the past been misled.

Who is surprised now about the comments of Rome, who knows quite simply the Roman doctrine, which is actually always communicate openly and honestly. I can not deny me the impression that those people do not know exactly but also their own origins, or to look away at least negligent about it. There was a reason why have separated the Reformers from the entity that calls itself church. They wanted to start a new church. Instead, they sat down with all our power to ensure that the Church is renewed. When this structure but to she turned and could not be put on the price of biblical doctrine, have left the reformers of this institution with a heavy heart and gathered with the believers in one church. This meeting will be nothing new, but the holy catholic (meaning general) Church, we confess.

Who is still reformed, but real, how to read on Lebensquellen.de is that is can easily recognize that this opinion simply shows that has changed little since the Reformation. Still, the reformed churches all believe that they are church. This opinion is a little uncomfortable, but who is not so, could we just really back to Rome.

Fat Women Wearing Girdles

gospel and baptism

a completely underdeveloped theme in terms of reforming council - I would say council at all - is the connection between the Gospel and baptism. Not that the baptism in many communities and churches are not anywhere has its place. Taufseminare be offered once a year and baptisms held on a beautiful lake or river. But it seems to me that baptism is somehow slipped back. As we can see in Acts, is baptized at each conversion event immediately (Acts 2:38, 8, 13 36, 9, 18, 10, 47, 16.15, 16, 33, 18, 8, 19, 5) . The Great Commission is, among other things, a yes baptize (Mark 16:16; 28.19 Mt). Therefore we can assume that baptism has been part of Evangliumsverkündigung. Since the baptism took place immediately after the conversion, the apostles and evangelists in their versions of the Gospel spoken clearly about the meaning of baptism.

This fact invites us to question our own preaching. Let's baptism as a central theme in non-Christians?

also could use the opportunity that many baptized people who have no respect for the Church to respond to their own baptism, the sign of the covenant, the responsibility to is connected, the promises, but also the threat that was made to Federal offenders.

Birthday Request For Money

music and singing in worship

Today it is quite natural to want to be sung in worship. In some communities, the song has its own permanent place of worship. He is then called worship or praise. What I read today by Bullinger (decade 5, sermon 5), has attracted attention myself again. Is what is now done as a matter of course, really in order? The passage from the sermon by Bullinger seems to me to speak directly to our time. But self
read very much in church singing is reprehensible. First, many, even most of the true fear of God contrary to sing and not everything is from the Holy Scriptures, but from all sorts of living and human traditions. And what is sung from the Scriptures is so twisted and distorted, that nothing of the divine spirit remains. Thus, creatures and dead people called. Second, this song is mandatory and not voluntary, and you sing with a free spirit, but to get under duress, yes you sing even to wages and an ecclesiastical benefice, as they call it. Also sing clerics who have been hired to do so and not as once the whole Church of Christ. Of singing is no end and no mass. It is sung day and night. This foolish, indeed wicked Singing is as if he were a godly and commendable work, more conceded than the true faith allows. One could say it's the talk that the Lord has in Matthew banned as a pagan superstition and sentenced. Furthermore, one sings in a foreign language that few people know why the Church has no profit. You hear a long tone without words that mean something to float, that expands up and down sound. Not infrequently, the singers compete with each other with their voices, echoes that the whole Church by a harsh cry, and understand the listener through the competition of the vote hardly what is sung. I say anything at this point about the music that you> called figurative, "and the musical instruments, almost all of which are included in the organ. I say nothing of Lamentations or the prayers for the dead, which I have spoken elsewhere. These and similar things, but take all the time so in the service claim that only a very small part or none of the true prayers and sacred divine preaching the Word of God can be given. Therefore lead those who believe in the gospel, with good reasons not tolerate such a song from him and not God in the Church. In the highest mass God-fearing and wise action is to be considered those what is the best or even the entire period of the church meetings for devotional and quiet prayers and for the saving preaching of the word used of God, and omit this song, because it is difficult to isolate a decent se singing so that he does not at some point the legitimate bounds exceed.

III. Biblical understanding of the good news

nine characteristics of a healthy church.

win in today's world, the Church on many issues clear. But most important is the heart of faith - the gospel. Every Christian should pray that he gets ever greater insight into the good news that suits him salvation by trusting in Jesus Christ. A healing church is full of people who have filled her heart with this message and share it with others.

When we think about the gospel, or explain it to someone, we must remember four things.

  1. God. To understand the good news is correct, we must first know the sender of the message. It is the holy and sovereign God, Creator of heaven and earth.
  2. man. Through the sin of man that God is his Image created, separated from God. He has lost what united him with his Creator.
  3. Christ. The eternal Son of God became man. He is the mediator between God and man. He died in the place of the sinner to save him from death and to reconnect him with his holy Creator.
  4. reaction. Anyone who has seen the first three points, is called to become the good news faith. This is done not by external gestures, but the fact that one turns away from his self-centered life in sin and to re-orient its creator can.
What remains of the good news when we have these points can provide information?

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel!

Messages For Newborn Baby

In Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.
Acts 11.26

After Christ by his disciples went away into the sky, spread the news from his work of salvation more and more. More and more people believed that Jesus Christ died for the sins of the people on the cross and took away their guilt. He is risen and lives. This death is overcome. Even persecution and death, the growing band of disciples diverted out of this hope. Wherever they came out well, they spoke of their Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ. That is what they were quickly dubbed derisively Christians. In the eyes of those around them, they were people who just talk of the Christ.

How would give us perhaps our contemporaries, if we did not already carry the label Christians? Do they recognize us because we talk of Christ, or do you think of something else? Perhaps the following names would be more in tune with the performance of today.

  • God's People Party
  • Alphakürsler ... Beta blockers
  • life optimizer
  • The prophets

  • vampire hunter
  • God Kulturmahner
  • coaching life coaches
  • Grübler
  • Without seminar-at-all-going-man

Minerva-35 And Breast Growth

Christians perceive God with all your senses

I have just met a very interesting and contemporary theory. God is to be perceived by people with all their senses. In today's communities, all too often stand alone, hearing and intellectual movement in the foreground. The representative of this thesis points out that God is in all of creation and of the People can and should be perceived. Calvin already has said that the mind is not sufficient to capture God. Therefore, let the Bible be included in the sermon preparation with all the senses contribute (keyword Bibliodrama) and worship of the rich human perception into account. Art, theater and dance have to find God in the meeting room. Today, many people are very open to supernatural experiences. Since them, this approach is contrary to natural. But he also agrees with the biblical understanding of revelation?

God reveals himself, according to Reformed understanding, mainly in the Scripture. Of course, God created all things and gives himself in to recognize his work. The Westminster Confession takes the same position at the beginning of this thesis.

Although the light of nature and the works of creation and care, the goodness, wisdom and power of God to reveal to the point that they leave people without excuse, but they range from not enough to give that knowledge of God and his will, which is necessary for salvation (WB Article 1.1). can

The commitment is not only a limitation of the disclosure, but shows readers the way they can gain confidence.

why it has pleased the Lord to reveal themselves at different times and in different ways to his Church and its to explain that his will and then this to better preserve and disseminate the truth and to secure creation and strengthening of the Church against the corruption of the flesh and the malice of Satan and the world altogether to trust the Scriptures. This Scripture makes most necessary, following those earlier ways in which God revealed his will to his people now stopped (on WB Article 1.1).

Today, we can gain certain knowledge about God, ourselves and the way to salvation. It has pleased God to make this safe revelation in the Scriptures. It is not found in the arbitrariness of the man as he would like to capture God. The Lord and Creator of the universe determines the way in its favor: it is His Word, the Scriptures.

course, writes Calvin assumes that the human mind can not grasp God still quite - even with the gracious revelation of Scripture. The reformer has a clear picture of the state of man. He is blind to God by sin and can not capture his creator on assets. This once again, the Westminster Confession.

While we can be the witness of the Church persuaded and led to esteem the Scriptures and to consider respectfully, even the heavenly beings of the content, the effectiveness of teaching, ... are reasons by the it proves to excess, that it is the Word of God. But still our full conviction and certainty comes from their infallible truth and its divine authority from the inner workings of the Holy Spirit, who is through and with the word witness in our hearts (WB Article 1.5).

The Holy Spirit must save the people of his blindness and help him that he aufmerkt on the word that will save him. This is also true for the people of our age who are willing to make a transcendental experience.

God has established it in His grace so that the faith is awakened by hearing his word by his Spirit. If the church is looking for other ways she moves clearly away from God's eternal pardon. That is why Luther can already sing the community, "received us, Lord, at thy word."

European Conference of Reformed Churches

This week, in Soest (NL), the European Conference of Reformed Churches (ECRC ) instead. Reformed churches throughout Europe imagined and thought about the challenges and opportunities of today.

I must admit that I was never prepared so bad at a conference. On Tuesday morning, I knew just where we are headed - to the Netherlands. I was surprised to, in what I'm here, stumbled at the invitation of Dutch friends. Suddenly I was in the middle of pastors from all over Europe. Although my English is getting back to his limits pushed (which for me is not very surprising), it was to find very interesting and informative, what about the Reformed Church in Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, Poland or Ukraine . Surprisingly (at least to me) that the Reformed meet almost anywhere in very small communities (the Netherlands is probably the great exception here in Europe).

made in his presentation, Dr. Maris (Christian Reformed Church in the Netherlands) point out that the theologians at the time of the Reformation had a lively exchange. Today there is unfortunately just in German-speaking Europe often a Eigenbrötlertum. Everyone seems to be busy with its own problems and disputes. Encouraging contact between the churches, pastors and theologians, unfortunately, remains on track. It is astonishing that should surely have had their problems, the Reformers (the Church's history is probably sufficient information) and it still without modern means of communication managed to encourage each other to help and advise. Apparently they knew rather that the international connection is absolutely necessary.

The church does not end at the end of our members and also not on the border of our city. We can not speak of a universal Christian church and continue to do so as otherwise there would be no one who shares our faith and connected to our Lord. It is imperative that the Reformed churches and people know with Reformed convictions of each other. is supported only way we can help each other to be, so that the Reformed concern that we share.

What can we do?

The shot from the pulpit

Conrad Ferdinand Meyer describes in his story "A shot from the pulpit," a pastor who is next to his ministry a great lover of guns and hunting. One Sunday morning he gives his cousin, the general, a pistol. The weapons fond pastor does not want the object of his Desire can and takes her to the pulpit. Then it happened.

"Fresh and fast it went into the sermon, and already they had progressed through its first third ... The priest was in the heat of action, while his left hand gesturing in front of all the people with the right hand instinctively covered by the pulpit, the beloved pistols pulled back. \u0026lt;Lobet God with great Schalle!> he exclaimed, and, puff! slammed a powerful shot. He stood in the smoke. When he was getting visible again, the blue powder cloud slowly welled up around him and floated like an incense over the congregation. "

This story, in which we like to smile, showing a high risk of under which each preacher. All too quickly we take our hobbies with the pulpit. Rarely are so tangible things like a gun. All sorts of other things involved and enjoy the pastors and preachers throughout the week. And so it happens very quickly that we find the Bible nor our favorite ideas, our favorite pastimes and our favorite books on the pulpit. Although it is not crashing like a pistol shot swing, so in addition to teaching the Bible always the sound of secret or open with passions.

is of course a priest only human. Hopefully he can be enthusiastic about something. But just so he should know exactly what he's on Sunday Community passes. Only if he is honest with himself, he can discover where his passions run away with him and he becomes a fanatic of his pleasure.

obstacle to evangelism

is today considered in many corners of evangelism. Again and again, do you also think about why today is the testimony of the community in such a barren soil. It used to have been times when people came in droves to preach, and changed their lives. What is preventing the evangelism today?

This weekend I made some thoughts about the righteousness of God before. Paul writes in Romans that Christ is the righteousness that people need, to stand before God. Everyone sins and has lost his life. His reward is God's wrath and eternal death. The Gospel that we proclaim want is that God is gracious and made his son for us to sin. He carried the cross for the punishment of my iniquity. Through faith in Christ, I'll just - by grace!

rung on these thoughts in me suddenly a thought that I no longer get rid of. Can it be that the self-righteousness of Christians the greatest obstacle to effective evangelism? Who among us has ever told his neighbor, or friend, or his relative: "Look at me. I am the most miserable Sinners, whom you can imagine. If the sin in me for a moment would be given free room, I was able to worst thing you can imagine. I have squandered my life, and deserve, that God condemns me. "Instead, we prefer to convince our interlocutors of his inadequacy. We, however, like to stay on the righteous side, and raise such a self-righteous feeling.

Why are we not be honest and tell people how it is really about us? This approach would not likely lead to the truth?

Tear In Seam Leather Couch

Reformed ABC - G as in Act II

The question is to understand how the new covenant the law, how and in what form it still valid is whether it still had a meaning, is not rare in Reformed circles.

The Reformation brought the one hand, a return to the Word of God (which itself often is 'law' geannnt) as the only source of knowledge of God's nature and will.
other hand, emphasized the Reformers - Martin Luther probably the most prominent - that the gospel brings freedom from the law and the way the law is not the Who's salvation.

Since the Reformation, the struggle for a proper understanding of the law not ceased and has always found new proponents on both sides.
"The law has no meaning," get some. "The law applies to such . Before ", the other

Actually, the confusion would not be so large that they would only listen to the legislature, promise and fulfillment of the law is - Christ
His most important opinion on the law and its importance in the New Covenant. we find in the Sermon

The Sermon on the Mount did Jesus, to -. first - to describe the nature of the Christians (from 5.1 to 16 Mt), then to show what life will look like the Christian, while the importance of the law added (Mt 5:17 ff)
The connection between these two parts and also the start to the second part of the statement makes 5.17. "Does not that I have come to the law and the prophets dissolve. I am not come to destroy but to fulfill "

Below It then shows as interpreted the law and fulfilled as it must be understood against should he take those who had the most severe form of statutory interpretation... - . the Pharisees
And he says that our Gerechtikgeit - our understanding and living out of the law -.. must be better than that of the Pharisees

Then he sets an example of passages of the law not as the Pharisees and probably the vast majority of his contemporaries . according to the letter, according to the external understanding Rather, he teaches how the law according to the Spirit - that is, as it always be understood should, since it was given - understood and lived.

By Jesus says that He came to fulfill the law, He says two things.
Christ fulfilled the law prophetic and moral.
Prophetic words, He was announced by the law and has now come.
called Moral: He kept the law to the smallest detail, and lived out - in thought, word and deed. So
He also meets in our place as our substitute.

God requires of every man perfect justice, perfect fulfillment of His holy law. Those who do not meet can not have fellowship with God, his sin makes him unable to, it has to be in breach of the just and holy God.

But to whom Christ is the delegate count, that believes the one who stands before God, as he would have kept everything. Christ is held in place and that Christ's perfect righteousness is imputed to him.
If so, the law is fulfilled in the life of this man still in another form. Namely, when Christ fulfilled it constantly in it - by giving him the power and the ability to live it.

The law has in the life of Christians is not the function, for example, the Pharisees and Judaizers, or the Roman Church had been thought, namely that there is a is to make people comfortable with God and that he could earn by keeping the commandments of God as perfect kindness or even his adoption.
But this function, the law was never, not even in the Old Covenant.

The law has three basic functions: mirrors, bars, usually .

mirror means that it points to the sin and drives the sinner to Christ, who saved him from the curse of the law and helps him to live in his mind.
bolt means: it forbids the wrong and keeps out the wrong way.
usually means: It shows the Redeemed, how can he live to the glory of God. That this is already the original intent of the law was particularly evident in the preamble of the commandments (Ex 20.1: "I am the Lord your God who brought you out from slavery ...").

The Duch Christ redeemed the law is not slavishly and keep to the letter, thinking that he is viewed favorably by God, if it is sufficiently good at it.
But he will keep his mind from the relationship with the Father and the power of the Holy Spirit.
But he will keep it.
